Dual Recovery Anonymous

“People with co-occurring disorders often experience more severe and chronic medical, social, and emotional problems than people experiencing a mental health condition or substance-use disorder alone. Because they have two disorders, they are vulnerable to both relapse and a worsening of the psychiatric disorder. Further, addiction relapse often leads to psychiatric distress, and worsening of psychiatric problems often leads to addiction relapse. Thus, relapse prevention must be specifically designed for the unique needs of people with co-occurring disorders. Compared to patients who have a single disorder, patients with co-existing conditions often require longer treatment, have more crises, and progress more gradually in treatment.” (Psychology Today – Read full article here)

The coexistence of mental health and substance use disorders affects approximately 7.9 million adults in the United States (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration 2014).

Dual Recovery Anonymous is a twelve step support group that offers individual with both mental health and substance use disorders a place to get support, to discuss their issues and to stop feeling alone.
